Summary: | Characteristics of each reservoir can be different due to its fluid characteritics, drive mechanism, or rock characteristics. Those differences could affect field development performance, degree of difficulty, and economic aspects to be different for each reservoir. For oil field, it’s common for carbonat reservoir to be more difficult and have lower perfromance so that the economic aspects can be different from sandstone reservoir. This is affected by oil wet characteristic of carbonate reservoir so oil is more difficult to flow. More over if the reservoir has solution gas drive only so the recovery factor will be low. Reservoir with that condition should have right and suitable plan of development to achieve higher economic aspects.
Carbonat reservoir which was formed by build up reef usually formed as multilayer reservoir with different characteristic for each layer. To improve field economy, the common used method is by using commingle completion. But on multilayer reservoir, commingle completion could result cross flow, back pressure or turbulence phenomenon which can make pressure decline and reduce field performance. The future Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR) of a well with that phenomenon could be lower than predictions. Because of that, another common used method is dual completion. But, dual completion have higher cost and basicly designed for 2 layers only. In further development, commingle and dual completion could be combined to produce more than 2 layers.
In this study, field development is implemented for dual completion to determine performance and economic aspects changes in oil field with carbonate rock and solution gas drive where cross flow occured. This study is implemented by using reservoir simulator which is integrated with tubing & flowline simulator to increase the accuracy and determine field performance up to separator. With this study, application of dual completion will be evaluated as profitable or not for development of carbonat reservoir with typical charateristics. |
