CHARACTERISTICS OF INNER VOLCANIC EARTHQUAKE PRECEDING LAVA DOME APPEARANCE AT MOUNT KELUD

In 2007 an effusive eruption occurred at Mount Kelud caused the development of lava dome. Recorded volcanic earthquakes indicate an activity in the magma chamber. In this research, the dominant frequency, hypocenter and magnitude from the inner earthquake between the period of September to November 2007 were calculated. In calculating the dominant frequency, FFT (fast Fourier transform) was used, In principle it changes the signal <br /> <br /> representation from time domain to frequency domain without changing the physical properties of the original signal. Geiger's method was used to determine the hypocenter location with iteration and least square approach. The formula developed by Del Pezzo and <br /> <br /> Petrosino in 2001 to calculate the magnitude of Mount Vesuvius was used to calculate the magnitude. From the obtained calculation, Mount Kelud inner earthquakes have a dominant frequency between 4.41 to 9.97 with the hypocenters located between 5138 meters below sea level to 343 meters above sea level with magnitude from -0.62 to 0.84.
