SYNTHESIS OF KCC-1 USING NOVEL TEMPLAT, BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE

The morphological controlled synthesis of porous materials shows several breakthrough recently. This includes the synthesis of porous silica KCC-1 showing interesting morphology of bicontinuous concentric lamellar morphology that provides wide access of active sites. Previous studies showed that the...

This includes the synthesis of porous silica KCC-1 showing interesting morphology of bicontinuous concentric lamellar morphology that provides wide access of active sites. Previous studies showed that the KCC-1 have always been synthesized using high purity surfactant with single molecular structure as templat. Herein, we reported the synthesis of KCC-1 implementing novel template, i.e. alkyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chlorides or commercially known as benzalkonium chloride (BZK). The surfactant is in liquid form with purity of 48% and possessing various carbon chain lengths such as 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18. The synthesis was performed by using solvothermal treatment and the KCC-1 with bicontinuous concentric lamellar morphology can be obtained by adopting a mixture with BZK / Si mole ratio of 0.43 and 1.10. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example to synthesize KCC-1 by using BZK surfactant. The resulting KCC-1 is comparable to the one synthesized using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). SEM images show similarity in particle morphology and size.

text
