GMKGR’s effort on introducing Javan deer (Rusa timorensis de Blainville, 1822) as a game animal needs to consider the distribution of forage species for the game animals. There are some plant species in GMKGR known having a good protein content as a food source. This research intends to model the distribution of food sources of Javan deer comprised of five plant species (Calliandra calothyrsus, Zapoteca tetragona, Hylodesmum repandum, Brachiaria decumbens, and Setaria palmifolia) and determining environmental variables that affects the distribution in a planned hunting area of 1.097,7 ha in GMKGR. Species distribution modelling is performed by using a maximum entropy (MAXENT) approach. The data used in the modelling comprised of the species’ presence points collected from a field survey and nine environmental variables: NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index), NDMI (normalized difference moisture index), altitude, slope, aspect, monthly precipitation, average temperature, landcover, and distance to rivers. The model validation test based on the area under curve (AUC) value of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve shows that the AUC values of C. calothyrsus, Z. tetragona, H. repandum, S. palmifolia, and B. decumbens distribution models are 0,883; 0,887; 0,782; 0,804; and 0,953 respectively. Environmental variables with the highest contribution on each distribution models are landcover (for C. calothyrsus, S. palmifolia, and B. decumbens distribution models), monthly precipitation (for Z. tetragona distribution model), and slope (for H. repandum distribution model). The distribution of five food source plants of Javan deer can be modelled with performance ranges between average-very good (0,782-0,953) based on the AUC value. The distribution model of B. decumbens has the highest AUC value of 0,953. text
