Therefore, the research was conducted on 60 sub-districts spread across 4 districts in Madura Island. Parameters used to determine the potential of sugarcane plantations are slope and climatic parameters consisted of rainfall, temperature and sunshine duration. Rainfall is the most decisive factor associated with sugarcane growth due to its large variability. This research used Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method in 36 sub-districts with 10-day rainfall data for 30 years to know the factors that affect rainfall in the study area. Results from PCA obtained the first 3 eigenvectors. The eigenvector 1 is defined as a monsoon. The eigenvector 2 is defined as the convection activity of MJO, QBO and ENSO. The eigenvector 3 is defined as a global factor of Indonesian through flow. The recommended map of sugarcane area consists of 27 sub-districts (S1), 28 sub-districts (S2) and 5 sub-districts (S3) with 22% of the total study area can not be used as sugarcane plantations. Production of sugarcane decreased in 2015 and 2016 due to the occurrence of El Nino. In addition, inappropriate planting times also resulted in reduced productivity of sugarcane. text
