It can be there on automotive industry, oil and gas , aircraft, and power plant. Beside of these, there are some problems that should be solved which need advanced research. These issues include macrosegregation, embrittlement, galvanic corrosion, and microstructure difference on weld interface. Those can be affected by base metals melting point difference, thermal expansion coefficient, and metallurgical characterisation. The example of effort to solve dissimilar metal welding’s problem giving optimum heat treatment. In this Final Project, the heat treatment variations refer to preheat variation (nihil, 1000C, 1500C, 2500C) and Post-Welding Heat Treatment/PWHT (nihil, 4000C, 4500C, 5200C). This Final Project’s objective is analyzing the effect of heat treatment variations to mechanical properties and microstructure characterisation of weld joint. The methods of Final Project consists of preheat (nihil, 1000C, 1500C, 2500C), then welding process by Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) between SS 304 stainless steel dan A53 carbon steel ER 308 metal filler, voltage 20 volts, dan DC current 140 ampere based on ASME QW-255.1. After that, PWHT with variation treatment that nihil, 4000C, 4500C, and 5200C. Variation between preheat and PWHT resulting 16 heat treatment combinations. Then, macrostructure and microstrucure observations (optical), hardness test (micro-Vickers), tensile test, dan EDS. In this Final Project, the conclusion is the increasion of preheat temperature increasing sensitisation risk on SS 304 HAZ region and as higher as PWHT temperature can be increasing carbon migration from A53 to A53-weld metal fusion which producing mechanical properties variation. text
