| Summary: | Rare earth elements (REE), which can be found in various types of deposits, are very important in the development of modern technology. The REE-bearing minerals are associated with major commodities, such as alluvial tin, which have a great potential to be cultivated as a by-product that can added value to the potential of minerals resources. However, research as a preliminary assessment of rare earth elements on placer deposit in Belitung, Indonesia, are still limited. This research aims to collect the dispersion potency of rare earth elements from placer deposit in Belitung Island and also to determine the exploration strategy that will be conducted on the potential of rare earth elements in Belitung Island to be developed and managed properly. Sampling were taken from 34 widely spread points which was reduced to 20 representative sample points of an ancient alluvial fan in Belitung Island. The samples were analysed for minerals by grain counting and for elements by Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (ICP – MS). According to the ICP – MS analysis, the potential of rare earth elements in Belitung Island is more feasible in the light-REE on placer deposit instead of primary deposit. Grain counting analysis shows the dispersion of rare earth elements in Belitung Island located in Sijuk Region (Northwest Belitung Island), Kalapa Kampit Region which spread to Damar Region up to upper Gantung Region (North East to East Belitung Island), and lower Membalong Region (Southwest Belitung Island). |
