LANDSCAPE DESIGN FOR PUBLIC OPEN SPACE IN KAHAYAN RIVER-EDGES IN PALANGKA RAYA

Awareness of conserving natural ecosystem in urban areas did not get serious concern in order urban development. Maintaining connection with nature is a fundamental need and has significant implications for the quality of life of city dweller. The presence of high quality biodiversity in urban areas provides with additional environmental and economic benefits including cleaner air and water, more attractive properties and recreational areas <br /> <br /> <br /> Palangka Raya, the capital of Central Borneo, has an urban natural ecosystems that is Kahayan River including wetland. However the condition was poor and cannot performs their ecological function due acquisition by the uncontrolled growth of informal settlements were standing along Kahayan River. As a result, it became slum area and isolated from the city. if this area developed with well planning and designing based by environmental consciousness, it is able to provides good value of economic, socio-cultural, city aesthetic, and ecology. <br /> <br /> <br /> According to PERMEN PU 05 / PRT / M / 2008 and RDTRK Palangka Raya, Kahayan River an area for green open space and provides social function, sport, and recreation with harmless implication activities to river and wetland area. <br /> <br /> <br /> Through the landscape design in this project, aims to find a balance between good ecological perform and good public open space in Kahayan river area. Design solutions are manifestation of socio-cultural identity representation and the improvement of ecological functions of the river and wetland, that can provides a good quality of natural ecosystem for urban dweller. Some of problems found in this location are located on floodplain and sensitive ecosystem area, lack of biodiversity, and poor quality of city run-off. <br /> <br /> <br /> Design result will covers the site plan of the site, detail of each areas such as are Sukarno's Monument Plaza and boat dock, community park, wetland lodges, and constructed wetland includes the system and plants selection
