Sidewalks also serve to connect pedestrians from one place to another through the integration of connectivity and continuity of intermodal means such as railway station. In Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, the largest number of pedestrians comes from railway commuters that transits at Tanah Abang Station. The station serves about 40,000 pedestrians each day. Pedestrians exit the station to Tanah Abang area through two exits located on the north and south side of the station. The existence of sidewalks to support pedestrian in reaching their destinations is very important. The phenomenon that occurs on sidewalks located in (north / south), indicates that the use of sidewalks is not only dominated by pedestrians, but also by informal activities such as street vendors, conventional 'ojek' (motorcycle taxi) and online 'ojek'.This informal activity is a reciprocal response of the benefits provided by pedestrians. This study aims to find the principle of sidewalk design in transit station area with focusing on the utilization character by it’s local community or daily users, such as; pedestrians, street vendors and ojek drivers. One of the way or element to describe the utilization character of the sidewalk is to identify it’s pattern of use. This study uses quantitative descriptive method. The research was conducted with field observation method and user perception through questioner and interview. The result showed that the pattern of sidewalk usage by street vendors and ojek drivers was influenced by sidewalk usage pattern by pedestrians. The study also shows that the culture and activity of the trading center in Tanah Abang Station area is the factor that influences the time and the dominant number of the highest sidewalk use by the three users. text
