Summary: | Papandayan deposit is located at the southern part of West Java. Some experiments were conducted to find an alternative process of Papandayan ore. Grinding test and observation under an optical microscope were conducted to determine the characterization of Papandayan gold ore. Feed of grinding test is an ore that has undergone size reduction of jaw crusher and roll crusher. Grinding test carried out on 5 samples with target size P80: 70, 100, 120, 140, 200 mesh to obtain the retention time to produce each target size. Size distribution before and after grinding test was used to determine the required grinding energy. Each grinding test product was sieved to produce product with fraction: +70, -70+100, -100+120, 120+140, -140+200, -200 mesh and each fraction was observed under microscope. Grinding test result showed that the retention time of grinding to produce P80 Papandayan ore size can be determined by following equation: y=0,047x2-10,72x+675,1 where y is the size of P80 (micro) and x is the retention time of grinding (minutes). The required energy to produce P80 can be determined by following equation: y=237,0x-0,65 where y is the required energy (kwh/ton) and x is P80 (micron). The result of observation with an optical microscope showed that perfect liberated gold was at minus 200 mesh. Gold and silver were obtained associate with sulfide minerals such as: galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite so the method to recover sulfide minerals can be used to get gold such as flotation. Texture of Papandayan pyrite and chalcopyrite ore is porous. This texture on pyrite and chalcopyrite can help cyanide to access gold surface in pyrite and chalcopyrite. |
