This technique mathematically <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> uses an approach to the Zoeppritz equation to identify changes in amplitude as a function of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> the incident angle and relate it to the rock properties and fluid content. In this study, a new <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> attribute, Energy-weighted AVO, was used to identify the presence of hydrocarbons in the <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Penobscot field, Canada. The main principle of this attribute is to improve the anomaly <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> response associated with hydrocarbons as well as to attenuate the background seismic <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> around the anomaly. The advantage of this attribute is to distinguish the hydrocarbon <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> anomaly response to other anomalies caused by lithology such as coal.
