EFFECT OF HARVEST TIME QUALITY ON LYCOPENE CONTENT OF THIRTEEN CHERRY TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum L. var cerasiforme) VARIETIES
Tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum) belongs to the large family of Solanaceae or commonly called eggplant. One of the most widely developed tomato varieties in Indonesia is the cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. var. Cerasiforme) which is small round like a cherry. Cherry tomato fruit has lycop...

One of the most widely developed tomato varieties in Indonesia is the cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. var. Cerasiforme) which is small round like a cherry. Cherry tomato fruit has lycopene content that is beneficial especially for health. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of harvest time on lycopene content on thirteen varieties of cherry tomatoes located in controlled and open environments, evaluate the growth profile of cherry tomato plants in a controlled and open environment, and evaluate the effect of harvest time on tomato fruits and lycopene productivty on thirteen varieties of cherry tomatoes that are in a controlled and open environment. The content of lycopene in cherry tomatoes was measured using the extraction method and analyzed by using spectrophotometry. Productivity of cherry tomato fruit is 148,302 mg/week.m2. The results showed the optimum lycopene content of cherry tomato fruit is achieved by cherry tomato variety number 7 in 9th period of harvest time, 72,11 µg lycopene/gram f.w. text |
