Description
Summary:Distribution of total suspended solids (TSS) in the ocean can be determined by reviewing the physical factors, such as tides and currents. Hydrodynamic and transport model simulation conducted to determine the distribution of TSS in the Jakarta Bay using 2-dimension model (x axis and y axis). The simulation using finite volume method is expressed in the continuity and momentum equations to calculate the hydrodynamic process and advection diffusion equation to calculate the transport process. This simulation uses several data, such as coastline, bathymetry, tides as the open boundary condition, and concentration of TSS and discharge at the estuary to see the distribution of TSS. Based on hydrodynamic simulation results for 1 month on July 1, 2013 until July 31, 2013 shows that the Jakarta Bay has mixed diurnal type of tidal or in one day occur one high tide and one low tide with different of tidal range. The current pattern in the Jakarta Bay are back and forth, it is moving from east to west during high tide condition and moving from west to east at low tide condition. Hydrodynamics and transport simulation carried out for 1 month on November 1, 2015 until November 31, 2015 to know the distribution of TSS. The simulation results verified to TSS concentration in 22 points in the Jakarta Bay. The simulation result shows that in the verification point that is near the coastline and estuary which has bigger TSS concentration and discharge, it also has bigger value, like near Muara Cengkareng. Highest TSS concentration value is in the western part of Jakarta Bay and decreased towards the east and the north. The verification result shows that field data of TSS concentrations in the Jakarta Bay is not the same like the simulation results at the same point. This happens because at the beginning of the simulation, the value of the initial TSS in waters considered zero, so that the value of simulation TSS concentration was only an addition sourced from estuaries, not the accumulated value as happened in the field.
