Moreover, to ensure the continuity of the accessibility, the quality of the rural road is also emphasized especially in term of the road pavement which can endure any weather and the capability of the road to facilitate human and goods transportation. Since the accessibility and quality of the road network is the problem in the majority of rural areas, to provide qualified road network in those areas would require a huge amount of expense. To reduce the cost, the appropriate method to provide the efficient as <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> well as effective rural road network needs to be identified. One of the methods to increase the efficiency of the network is to find the shortest path within the network. In this thesis, by applying such method, two models of rural road network, namely the one which has market orientation and the one with cluster <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> orientation, are compared to identify which model is better in providing the basic for effective and efficient rural road network. The comparison is conducted by applying the two models to form road networks which serve the development clusters in the districts in Indonesia. The application of the two models is done by using some variables namely connectivity to the market, connectivity within <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> cluster, minimizing the construction costs and minimization of travel cost. Using statistical tests, the significance of the difference among the networks could be identified and afterward the further examination using multi-criteria analysis is conduct to examine the detailed differences. The characteristic comparison between the two models is also carried out to further examine the statistical tests results. By observing the results of those examinations, model that provides more efficient as well as effective rural road network could be identified. text
