Description
Summary:Development of tourist areas with various kinds of tourism activities contained within it causes an increase in amount of waste generated in developed tourist area. Performance of waste management system that is not yet optimal, is marked by number of waste that is not well managed in tourist area. Purpose of this research is to evaluate waste management system in tourist area, to study amount of waste and composition in existing tourism area. Method of research conducted with field observation stage, interview then analyzed by using comparison method. Field observation was done by measurement of waste generation and composition based on provisions of SNI 19-3967-1994 and with dirtiness index method. Analysis of waste management system using method of benchmarking. Amount of waste generation at Pangandaran Beach tourism area is 11.37 liters/person/day, Legok Pari Beach tourism area of 6.53 liters/person/day, TIJA tourist area of 2.2 liters/person/day, tourist area of Pulau Untung Jawa of 8.12 liters/person/day, Pulau Gili Trawangan tourist area of 7,12 liter/person/day, Situ Ciburuy 6.66 liters/person/day, Jatiluhur reservoirs area of 6.3 liters/person/day, Situ Patenggang tourist area of 1.72 liters/person/day and tourist area of Samosir of 2,72 liter/person/day. The composition of waste that dominates in each tourist area in the form of beach that is organic waste is 53% -75%. Composition of organic waste in tourist area in form of lakes 25% -45% of amount of waste generated. Estimation of potential calorific value in each tourist area is between 1700 kcal / kg-3300 kcal / kg. Potential for waste reduction is 31-60% of the waste generated. From analysis of waste management performance, it is known that in general the constraints of waste management in beach and lake tourism areas are mostly caused by financing aspect and institutional aspect. The proposed waste management in the area can be done comprehensively by increasing the participation of community, giving counseling about waste, improving technical operation of waste management, and arranging the institutional and legal provisions of waste management in tourism area.
