Summary: | Gas lift Pack-Off (GLPO) is a method to create gas lift passage from a well’s annulus into the tubing flow area at a desired location. GLPO installation allowing a deeper gas lift injection point without disturbing the original tubing configuration that was originally installed. It’s expected to improve well performance and prolonging production lifetime as reservoir pressure declines.

The GLPO technique is similar with conventional gas lift where the gas is injected into the production tubing to reduce the hydrostatic pressure of the fluids in the wells due to the change in density of the liquid. Decreasing the bottomhole pressure will magnify the drawdown inside the well so that the flow rate becomes higher. GLPO can be installed and loaded with wireline, thus eliminating the need for a workover rig. GLPO is equipped with a gas lift mandre (GLM) for gas lift purposes without the need to lift the tubing. Based on its simplicity, successful operation, and substantial economic impact, this method will be implemented in X Field.

This GLPO application has been implemented in well A-11 in the X Field. The well was drilled and completed with only two gas lift mandrels (GLM) which were intended only for initial kick-off process/unloading. After the kick-off, the well was expected to flow naturally and not require continuous gas lift injection since the gas from the formation will be sufficient to lift the produced liquid to separator.

The well A-11 has not been able to flow naturally as time goes. Production optimization was carried out in order to revive this well, initially the huff and puff methods were tried on this well but only produced very low production rates. The well can flow for a day after being closed for two weeks. After that the production optimization was done with the installation of a permanent gas lift pipe because initially there was no gas lift pipe available at the time.

The well back on production using gas lift by injecting the gas lift at exsisting installed GLM on GLM#2. Potential increase well A-11 production can be done by deepening the gas injection point. GLM point#2 was installed at shallow depth so the pressure drawdown of the well is still not optimal. The distance between GLM#2 and the production packer is 4058 ftTVD or equal to the ratio of 52%. GLPO method can deepen the point of gas injection to the limit of production packer at a depth of 8,424 ftTVD.

With GLPO method it is expected that well A-11 can be produced with optimum flow rate and expected to produce 99% higher production than previous production which only injected gas lift in GLM#2. |
