Summary: | Generally, a simple residential structure built in Indonesia consists of a masonry wall confined by portal element. However, due to the lack of knowledge about the brick wall, brick walls are often neglected as structural elements and just considered as architectural elements which strength and rigidity are ignored in structural analysis. In fact, the brick wall contributes significantly in the strength and stiffness of confined masonry strucutral system. In this research there will be a numerical model development of masonry walls confined by reinforced concrete portal element with monotonic loading and cyclic loading analysis. Retraints portal elements are modeled as nonlinear beam-column elements and the brick wall as nonlinear strut element. The main objective of this is study is evaluating nonlinear strut element’s parameter until the results are close enough with the result of the previous experiment. The models were reviewed in this development of numerical models are a full-scale model of residential structure by Hwie (2011) for monotonic loading analysis and 2D model masonry wall confined by reinforced concrete portal element by Wijaya (2009) for cyclic loading analysis. A Hwie full-scale house masonry walls represents a common house built in Indonesia and Wjaya J’s model is a confined masonry wall model that fulfills a criteria as SRPMB on SNI 2847 : 2002.The result of monotonic loading analysis on a Hwie full-scale house masonry walls shows that the load displacement curve corresponding to the experimental test result. However, the check shows that there is a failure of the anchor on the joint of the most critical column element. The results of cyclic loading analysis using OpenSees program with graphic user-interface Navigator produce hysteretic curve relatively similar to the hysteretic curve from the previous experimental results. |
