Description
Summary:LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) is one of many displacement-transducers. This kind of transducer works based on magnetic flux principle which is excitated by the core from induction of the primary coil. The input of LVDT is alternating current (AC) voltage, thus also resulting an AC output. If the input of LVDT is not constant, so the output will not constant either. This means that LVDT excitation voltage changes causes the sensitivity of LVDT also changes. Besides that, because of output voltage is AC voltage, so the motion direction hard to be estimated. This motion direction of LVDT can be known from phase of the input and output voltage. In other hand, this type of LVDT which uses AC voltage only suitable for AC voltage based equipment, so equipment which based on DC voltage will have difficulties using this type of LVDT.

On this final project, designing and manufacturing LVDT signal conditioner is conducted based on IC AD598. The designing process consists of designing the power supply and the LVDT signal conditioner using IC AD598. The designing of signal conditioner based on design procedure which is explained in the AD598 datasheet. Electrical circuit resulted from the design is converted to PCB. The designing process of PCB is using PROTEL 99 SE software. After designing the power supply and signal conditioner is finished, then the next step is calibration process which is consist of static calibration and dynamic calibration. The purpose of calibration process is to know the linearity and sensitivity of this system.

The result from static and dynamic calibration shows that the LVDT signal conditioner works properly until frequency 15 Hz with linearity higher than 0,99.
