REST AND SERVICE AREA ON MERTAPADA TOLL ROAD AS AND IDENTITY OF CIREBON

The need for rest and service area on the Mertapada Toll Road Cirebon associated with the potential of Cirebon Culture can make a creative idea to promote the culture of Cirebon through rest and service areas. Mertapada Toll Road located in north coast road plays an important role in the distribution system in Java Island. Promotion of a culture of Cirebon on rest and service area is an idea in the creative programming that has never been done because during the rest and service areas is maximized by the developer as a commercial place and often become the primary fulfillment is very less and not according to the standard. Active promotion will result in increased tourist arrivals and also have an impact on improving the local economy. <br /> <br /> <br /> The difficulty of applying the promotion of culture on rest and service area is the design that should be enjoyed by observers from the highway in a short time and with high speed. To design the rest and service area, appropriate studies done on similar projects and also projects that represent the local culture. In addition, standards and regulations related to rest and service areas using the reference of Highways so that the design can be more applicable. <br /> <br /> <br /> Design considerations related to the problem are not be separated from the red thread to the local culture of Cirebon. The common thread that connects the observer awareness to Cirebon on the location of rest and service areas are the Cirebon’s culture itself. Cirebon culture is shown by the transformation that maintains the term of the local culture. The common thread is Mega Mendung which is known worldwide and also the formation of the architecture such as the palace gate and fence that is widely applied in the city of Cirebon as ornament at each building, both public and private buildings. The transformation was accomplished while maintaining the essence of philosophical and also maintain its materials such as exposed red brick material that is found in the palaces in Cirebon and also other buildings in Cirebon.
