abstract <br /> <br /> <br /> One of the implications of regional autonomy is the issue on low social welfare while the region has potential resources. Local governments deal with such condition by developing their preeminent commodities in order to speed up the increasing of regional economy and capacity management. Pakpak Bharat Regency as a new autonomous region is attempting to develop gambier as its preeminent commodity. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Demands for gambier keep increasing and this region’s potential is promising a good farming prospect that can provide revenue leading to social welfare. However, gambier productivity in Pakpak Bharat Regency is so low that it cannot fulfill all demands. The gambier farming is meant for improving welfare in a long term, therefore the developing management should be sustainability-oriented. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research is conducted in order to have better understanding on gambier farming phenomenon in Pakpak Bharat Regency by creating a sustainable gambier farming model. A system dynamics approach is utilized as the research methodology due to its capability of providing the understanding on relation between structures and behaviors in a system. Using such understanding, an effective policy plan to supporting the sustainability of gambier farming can be obtained. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The results of this research show that the sustainability of gambier farming has the orientation on economic, social, and environmental aspects. The sustainable increasing of society’s income can be attempted through developing initiatives, such as : land conversion, technology improvement to increasing production capacity, and increasing of other incomes still based on gambier farming. Every plan is quite significant in influencing the sustainability of gambier farming. However, a comprehensive effort can give more significant results to improving farmers’ welfare compared to partial attempts. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Key words : system dynamics, model, gambier farming, sustainability <br />
