Summary: | Changes in land use may result in reduced catchment areas for rainwater. This condition does not only occur in downstream areas but also in upstream areas which should function as water absorption areas. That condition will cause the water that falls on the surface becomes a surface flow which may reduce the amount of water that can be absorbed into the soil. The alternative to manage rainwater runoff is by applying Low Impact Development (LID) concept. The LID concept is a stormwater management art with the goal of conserving surface and ground water, managing the life and water ecosystems and maintaining the physical integrity of the receiving river body. The basic idea of Low Impact Development is to retain and slow down the flow of runoff into water bodies, without causing puddles or floods in the area, and allowing water to absorb into the soil. Pekanbaru Riverfront Center is an integrated shopping center with a ferry dock where the stormwater management system in this final project will be designed using Low Impact Development concept, which is a combination of Bioretention and Infiltration Trench instead of conventional drainage channels. The design of river protection will be design with combination of groins and bioengineering system. |
