IDENTIFICATION OF GOLD MINERALIZATION IN PADANG SIBUSUK AND THE SURROUNDING AREA, WEST SUMATRA BASED ON ANALYSIS OF SATELLITE IMAGERY AND REGIONAL GEOCHEMICAL SURVEY

Limited access, dense vegetation, and absence of outcrops will make it difficult to conventional mineral exploration. One of the areas with that description is Padang Sibusuk and its surroundings, West Sumatra although it is known in the area there are alluvial gold deposits. The purpose of this stu...

One of the areas with that description is Padang Sibusuk and its surroundings, West Sumatra although it is known in the area there are alluvial gold deposits. The purpose of this study was to identify gold mineralization in the area by analyzing satellite imagery and geochemical survey. Analysis of satellite imagery is commonly used in the early stages of exploration. Satellite images used in this research were optical image of Landsat-8 / OLI. Landsat8 has eleven bands that divided into three groups of bands based on its wavelength, visible wavelength (band 1,2,3,4 and 8), infrared wavelength (band 5,6,7 and 9), and thermal wavelength (band 10 and 11). The basic principle of optical image usage is the use of spectroscopic reflectance properties to identify the target material (soil, rocks, vegetation, anomalous areas and mineralization). The geochemical survey of stream sediment as primary data with grain counting analysis was done to find out the dispersion of mineralization. The combined analysis of these two methods and complemented by secondary data of regional Sumatra's geochemical is done to identify potential areas of gold mineralization in the Padang Sibusuk and surrounding areas. The results of the analysis show the existence of several regions or formations that carry gold mineralization. But the formation which the most powerful allegedly carrying gold mineralization is Silungkang formation. text
