COARSE AND FINE GAIN AMPLIFIER ADJUSTMENT ANALYSIS IN BNC MODEL 970 MULTICHANNEL ANALYZER TOWARDS NAI(TL) SCINTILLATION DETECTOR GAMMA SPECTRUM USING SEVEN ISOTOPES

Nowadays, gamma radiation detector has become various with each of its sophisticated features. One of the features that can be used to identify radioactive source characteristic is the ability of the detector to distinguish radiation energies and present the data in form of energy spectrum. This gam...

One of the features that can be used to identify radioactive source characteristic is the ability of the detector to distinguish radiation energies and present the data in form of energy spectrum. This gamma spectrum can yield different results for the same radioactive source, it depends on detector material, and parameter adjustment of each system’s components. This research focuses on the analysis of gain amplifier adjustment of multichannel analyzer BNC Model-970. This gain adjustment maintain the amplification of current signals that represents the quality of radiation sources. The observation is based on the equation that convert channel number to energy value called callibration equation. Based on that analysis, parameter combination recommendation for seven isotopes are obtained. The conclusion of this research are coarse gain and fine gain give the same impact towards signal amplification with coarse gain as a most dominant. Besides the dominance analysis of coarse gain and fine gain, the impact analysis for each range of energy has also obtained. Those analyses has used to obtain the parameter recommendation for seven isotopes data acquisition. The error that obtained from the data acquisition using recommended parameter is ranged from 0.99% - 7.98%. text
