Summary: | is wounded. Resin is lipid-soluble mixture of volatile and non-volatile terpenoid or/and phenolic secondary compounds that are ussualy secreted in specialized structures located either internally or on the surface of the plant and has a function in ecological interactions. Nowadays, kemenyan resin is classified into six different quality i.e. I-VI in the market. Traders only take a look at resin physical properties such as size and color to differ each quality from others. Whereas there are other important aspects that need to be known to distinguish each quality. Those aspects are moisture content, impurities content and balsamic acid content. The purpose of this study is to determine those aspects from resin quality II, IV, and VI. The result indicates relation between moisture content and resin quality. The value is 0,74%, 0,97%, dan 1,41% for resin quality II, IV, and VI. Impurities content value for quality II, IV, and VI resin are 1,69%, 5,38%, dan 3,84%. Meanwhile, balsamic acid content for quality II, IV, and VI are 24,89% 22%, and 21,78% with purity 91,8%, 94,3%, dan 90,9% respectively. FTIR analysis shows balsamic acid that is isolated from extraction process is cinnamic acid. |
