Description
Summary:Minangkabau International Airport is located at the west of West Sumatera, pricesely 24 kilometers at South of downtown Padang. Accesibility to the airport is by using transportation such as car, bus and taxi. According to the development plan, the airport will be the 2nd airport after Kualanamu Airport that integrated with a train into the airport operational system.

The design project was part of government plan through Directorate General of Air Transportation regarding the implementation of airport development on phase II listed in the Minangkabau International Airport masterplan according to KP no.379 year 2015. As the current condition, the airport has two departure function (domestic and international) in one terminal, while the final stage of this development is the existence of 2 terminals with it respective function (domestic and international). The project development will be complete at the end of year 2020 and will be functioned at 2021. On phase II, the number of annual international passenger will be 392.600 passenger/year with extention coverage area will be 11.074 m2.

The design comes through the result from considerating the three design components; the result of realization of the design concepts, the foundation of the design approach and the result of answering the design issues. The design concept is about building (mass, space, circulation, structure etc) and plan designing concept. The design approach is related to the performance aspects approach (operational system, distribution system, circulation system, etc); technical aspects (module system, structure system, construction system). While the design issues will be the indication of design idea that completing the needs of the building and the stakeholders. The building needs are about; solving the site problem about connectivity between the design and existing terminal (will be functioned as domestic terminal) and train station (will be integrated into airport operational system); solving the function problem about expansion because the design will be a part of the development in the present and future so still allowing development on it; solving the design context that was located in earthquake prone areas. While the completing of the stakeholders need is about applying the values held by each stakeholders (such as sustainability, local identity, efficiency, etc) into design.
