PREMINILARY STUDY OF IRON CORROSION IN HIGH TEMPERATURE STAGNANT LIQUID LEAD BY USING MOLECULAR DYNAMICS

Liquid metal were used as a type of coolant in the 4th generation nuclear power plants, one of the example is the LMFR (Liquid Metal Fast Reactor). Liquid metal lead (Pb) is one of the materials that could be used as the coolant. Liquid metal lead (Pb) was considered since it has many chemical and p...

Liquid metal lead (Pb) is one of the materials that could be used as the coolant. Liquid metal lead (Pb) was considered since it has many chemical and physical advantages compared with other materials. However, its corrosive nature is the main problem of liquid metal lead (Pb) within fuel cladding and steels. This study was conducted to improve the understanding about this phenomena. In this research, the corrosion regarded as a degredation phenomena of material as a result of high dissolution of iron atoms interaction within high temperature liquid metal lead (Fe). We calculated the diffusion coefficient of iron pure system of Fe-56 within Pb-208, mix system of Fe-56 within Pb-208 and Pb-206, and mix system of Fe-56 within Pb-208 and Pb-206 using modified Lennard-Jones (LJ) potensial. text
