One method of underground excavation will be applied is continuous exacavtion using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Disc cutter is one of the cutting tools at continuous excavation which the performance of disc cutter affect the effectiveness of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The way to determine the performance of a disc cutter is creating a laboratory excavation test using disc cutter or it called a physical modelling. The disc cutter which uses for testing, made by considering the measured variables. From the test using sample 1 (concrete with compressive strength 7,86 MPa), sample 2 (concrete with compressive strength 22,45 MPa) and sample 3 (gypsum with compressive strength 2,59 MPa), we can found the influence of thrust force and rolling force to the disc cutter penetration. The greater thrust force and rolling force would give the high penetration. It also affects the result of specific energy, which the specific energy will deacrease decreases if penetration increases. The compressive strength also can affects the penetration, because the greater of compressive strength of the rock, make the penetration smaller and vice versa. From the result data of of test, we can get empirical equation using dimensional analysis : ... (Formula) .... p is the penetration (m), D is the diameter of the disc (m), Ft is the compressive force (N), σc is the uniaxial compressive strength of rock (Pa). text
