Description
Summary:Nutrient plays an important role in improving yield and quality of oil palm fruit. Boron is one of the essential micronutrients that play a role in pollination, fruit set, fruit characteristics and yield. Previous research on the family Araceae showed that spraying oil palm bunches with nutrients was able to increase yield and quality of fruit. Thus, the study aims to determine the effect of spraying boron on the physical characteristics of the fruit, yield and chemical quality of palm oil. The experiment was arranged using Randomized Design Group (RAK) with 3 treatments and 4 replications. Treatments were boron 0.1%, 0.2% boron and control (aquades). Palm was selected at 8 years-old as the sample of the study. Fruit bunches were sprayed 4 times starting from cengkir stage (1 month after antesis) until ripening stage. The results showed that spraying boron doesn’t give significant results on fruit size, weight, mesokarp weight, kernel weight, yield, free fatty acids level and beta carotene content.
