Dissimilar metal welding is used to reduce cost of corrosion resistance structure, but it has many issues to be studied further. Some of the issues found on dissimilar metal welding is macro segregation, galvanic corrosion, inhomogeneous micro structure characteristic at weld metal, and brittleness. Issues is occurred because of different melting point between to metals, difference of thermal expansion and metallurgical characteristics, and carbon diffusion between metals. One of solution to these problem is to use an optimum heat input. This research is to varying heat input parameters in dissimilar metal welding between carbon steel astm a53 grade a type f and stainless steel sae 304 using GMAW process to achieve optimum mechanical properties, and micro structure characteristics. Heat input parameter that will be varied are welding current and welding velocity. Each weld then will be evaluated using micro-Vickers hardness test, tension test, metallography, and Energy Disposition Spectroscopy (EDS). text |
