STUDY OF PHYSICAL ILLUMINATION EFFECT ON PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE OF DENTIST AT GENERAL PRACTICE ROOM OF DENTAL HOSPITAL.

The use of lighting in buildings must consider the visual comfort since affects occupant's work performance. This research was conducted to obtain lighting quantities that affects dentist performance in Dental Hospital of Padjajaran University and the criteria corresponding with positive influe...

This research was conducted to obtain lighting quantities that affects dentist performance in Dental Hospital of Padjajaran University and the criteria corresponding with positive influence on dentist performance. Various physical and psychophysiological data were collected.

Physical data collected were vertical and horizontal illuminance and High Dynamic Range (HDR) images for luminance. Dental accuration test was conducted to obtain

psychophysiological responses by measuring the number of error in recognising the patient's teeth done by respondents under various lighting condition. Based on the classical assumption tests, there are three lighting quantities that significantly affect the error percentage done by respondents. They are maximum luminance of mannequin, maximum luminance of ambient and contrast between oral and mannequin. The error percentage can be predicted by the equation of multilinear regression. The following values are suggested to obtain predicted error

percentage less than 15.99% with tolerance of 8% based on the equation of multilinear regression : ≤ 3418 cd/m2 for maximum luminance of mannequin, ≥ 2238 cd/m2 for maximum luminance of ambient and ≤ 9.66 for contrast between

oral and mannequin, assuming maximum luminance of mannequin is in the range 390 to 1550 cd/m2, maximum luminance of ambient is in the range 47 to 10203 cd/m2, and contrast between oral and mannequin in the range 0.73 and 23.82. The suggested values can be used as criteria for lighting optimization in dental hospital rooms. text
