Description
Summary:Sukabumi Regency is a big fishery potential area so that it is considered as a minapolitan region with PPN Palabuhanratu as the core zone of the region. The Fish producing fluctuation in a recent couple of years and the significant decrease in 2016 are suspectedly caused by climate change and La Nina – El Nino phenomena. Researchers predict that global warming will still continue and causing big impacts in fishery and minapolitan region sustainability. Local government commitment to minimalize the climate change impacts through climate change adaptation act is considered to be important. This research is aimed to identify the local government commitments of Sukabumi in responding to the climate change impacts to support the minapolitan region sustainability.

This research is done by doing qualitative descriptive method through FGD, literature study, instansional survey, and in-depth interview using purposive sampling. The data from interview, FGD, and documents of regional development plan are analyzed by using content-analysis technique and tabulated in accordance with the criteria of the research.

The analysis showed that the climate change affects the changes of fishing ground, weather patterns, and harvest season so that it causes the decrease of production results, fishermen productivity, and minapolitan region performance. So far the government commitments in responding to the climate change through program and activities planning related to ecosystem and fish resources preservation, infrastructures, financing and capital, and fishermen empowerment are already available. But, the government commitments in providing regulation, information system, and legal entities that are specifically authorized to the climate change adaptation are still lack. Beside of that, the local government as a stakeholder has not supported the regulatory framework that directs the integration of climate change adaptation into the marine and fisheries sector development plan. Therefore, the local government of Sukabumi needs to develop action plans of fishery adaptation that support minapolitan region sustainability.
