Most of the studies converged towards the same conclusion: that cold weather, priamrily in winter, is highly associated with increasing amount of respiratory illness occurrence. In the tropics, however, such conclusion is not quite appropriate due to the absence of winter weather. Inhabitants of tropic regions are accustomed to hot or warm and humid weather throughout the year, yet occurrence of respiratory tract infections are still common, including the lethal ones like pneumonia.

Also, studies about weather and respiratory illness so far still calculate the weather factor by calculating each weather element and its biotropic effect separately instead of considering the weather elements as a whole weather factor. Using a method by which the weather elements incorporated as a single variable describing the daily weather condition, it is found in this study that in Bandung, between January 2010 – December 2014, unusual increase of pneumonia occurrence is observed within the months in which certain type of daily weather occurs higher than normal. Such daily weather conditions are: daily maximum temperature exceeds 30° C and minimum temperature is not greater than 20° C, or, maximum temperature is not greater than 30° C and minimum temperature exceeds 20° C; daily mean of cloud cover is not less than 5/8, also partial vapor pressure is not less than 22.4 hPa. text
