Summary: | The use of air conditioning systems will eventually be followed by compliance with energy saving. There is common misconception that all chillers only operate in full-load capacity where in fact, most systems now adjust the capacity with the load conditions. This misconception often leads to a mistake to select the most suitable chiller. The goal of this undergraduate research is to obtain coefficients used in Nonstandard Part-Load Value (NPLV) equation. Then, this equation is used to determine the efficiency of air conditioning system under overall load conditions. This research is limited to determining coefficients for Kemayoran, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tanjung Priok, and city of Palembang using degree-hours method and radiant time series method. <br />

The results of degree-hours method showed that the most dominant conditions occured at 75% and 50% load conditions and very insignificant at 100% and 25% conditions. Otherwise, the coefficents from radiant time series showed rather equal values among load conditions with the most dominant at 75% load condition. If compared with actual conditions, results from radian time series method was more resembling the actual conditions. After the coefficients were determined, the overall effiiency of some types of chillers could be compared. From the analyses, it could be concluded that the chillers with screw compressors were better to be installed in these cities. |
