In 2016 the amount of waste reach 550.458 tonnes / day, and predicted the next 10 years the number will reach 663.375 tons / day, and at 20 years will be 676.047 tons / day. One of many problems facing by the current landfill management is the Leachate Processing Unit. Total population of TPA Piyungan service area in 2016 reached 2,581,750 people. TPA Piyungan was predicted able to manage waste from DIY until the year of 2026. The increasement of the population affects to the increasement garbage dump enters into landfill. Will be conducted the analysis if Recycle effort will be done in 2027-2036 before garbage enter to landfill in term to extend landfill’s lifespan up to 20 years. Required optimization of leachate processing unit at Piyungan landfill considering to the leachate quality of existing unit still does not meet quality standards in accordance to Governor Regulation No.07 DIY 2010 (Peraturan Gubernur DIY No. 07 tahun 2010) about Industrial Wastewater Effluent. The Increasement of population growth and landfill management system operated at TPA Piyungan brings problem in the overloading of garbage dump at landfill and influence the higher leachate production.
