Summary: | Metro Kapsul, as an Automated Guideway Transit, is expected to be one of the solution to overcome traffic congestion problem in urban areas. To develop Metro Kapsul, selection of suitable propulsion system and braking system is necessary. The propulsion system relies on direct drive electrical motor. The purpose of this final project is to estimate the traction, torque, and power needed for desired performance, to predict the performance of Metro Kapsul using the selected motor, and to design a braking system. The estimated traction, torque, and power needs are calculated using quasi-static method using d’Alembert principle according to initial design requirements. Motor is selected based on the calculation, with specifications: maximum power of 45 kW, maximum torque 1100 Nm, rated torque 700 Nm, and rated rotational speed of 580 rpm. Using the selected motor, the performance of Metro Kapsul is estimated to obtain operational envelopes. Braking system is designed based on design requirements (DR&O) to obtain components and braking system design. From the selected motor, it can be concluded that Metro Kapsul can operate in constant speed up to 100 km/hr on level ground and can accelerate up to 0.911 m/s2. The capsule can be operated fully loaded individually at maximum grade of 5%, and operated to push another empty capsule at maximum grade of 4%. From the traction analysis it can be concluded that in wet condition it will not experience slip during acceleration during acceleration and braking. Braking system uses disk with outer diameter of 335 mm and inner diameter of 227 mm. The brake can decelerate Metro Kapsul up to 1.25 m/s2 without skidding, is fail safe, and can be automatically controlled or manually during emergency situation. |
