Summary: | The isolation and identification of chemical compounds of the leaf of "kemuning" (Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack.) were carried out. The preliminary chemical study showed the presence of the flavonoid, tannin, steroid and triterpene. While magnesium, iron, calcium, natrium and silicon were found from the ash of the leaf. 7-Methoxy-8-(1',2'-epoxy-3'-methyl-3'-butenyl)coumarin or phebalosin, a crystalline compound which melted at 121,5 - 120°C was isolated from the petroleum ether extract and identified by means of elementer analyzer, ultraviolet infrared , nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometer. Two direction paper chromatography of the phenolic acids from the ethanolic extract showed the presence of phydroxybenzoic, vanillic, p-coumaric, ferulic and singpic acids. While the flavonoid was isolated from ethanolic extract and identified as a flavonol glycoside by means of ultraviolet spectrophotometer. Finally, three components of the essential oil were identified as -cadinene, -elemene, and '-elemene by means of gas liquid chromatograph - mass spectrometer. |
