One of the environment that can be polluted is the sea, especially in its sediment. The pollution caused from heavy metals and PAH are dangerous for the survival of human beings and other living creatures. Therefore, the development of methods to determine heavy metals and PAHs in marine sediment is done. The examined heavy metals are Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr; while PAH that examined are naphtalene, phenantrene and anthracene. The sample used in this research was taken from the Marunda’s beach, North Jakarta. The methods used to analyze heavy metals are external standard method, and standard addition method with atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) using the principle of flame. While PAHs compounds analysis is done using high performance liquid chromatography columns (HPLC) reversed phase with C-18 column and acetonitrile:water (60:40) as eluent. Samples preparation for the determination of heavy metals was wet destruction, and using soxhlet extraction for the determination of PAH compounds. The result of this reseach showed that the marine sediment sample is containing those heavy metals, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr, with each’s amount are 1.96 ppm, 1.91 ppm, 6.58 ppm, 0.22 ppm, and 2.20 ppm using the method of external standards. For the results of addition standard amount heavy metals Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd and Cr each 8.73 ppm, 4.48 ppm, 11.08 ppm, 1.15 ppm and 2.97 ppm. In conclution that the sample matrix influenced the determination of heavy metals with external standard by atomic absorption spectroscopy. For PAHs compound, on marine sediment samples indicates the naphthalene dan anthracene, but not indicates phenantrene compound. text
