Summary: | Granite is one of the material that is mined with quarry method. Granite is commonly used as industrial raw material. Particularly in the ceramics industry, minerals utilized in granite are feldspar used as flux. However, feldspar from Indonesia used for ceramic industry usually contains iron impurities. Iron impurities can change the color of the ceramics during the combustion process. In addition to industrial raw materials, granite also has REE content potential. REE is used as raw material for advanced technology industry. The sample in this research is obtained from ceramic industrial PT Angsa Daya stockpile. Samples of Lampung granite rocks on the market are considered as a Lampung feldspar commodity which is sold/used as raw material of ceramic industry. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of feldspar and other major minerals in Lampung granite and its relation to the use as an industrial raw material and to know the potential of REE contained in the Lampung granite. To achieve these objectives, a mineralogy study was conducted which included petrography and mineragraphy analysis and SEM analysis. After analysis of petrography and mineragraphy and SEM analysis is conducted, the main mineral that is identified is feldspar (alkali feldspar and plagioclase), quartz, and muscovite. Impurity mineral present in the form of hematite and magnetite. Identified REE is Ce and Y in very small amount (trace elements). Based on the results, it is concluded that Lampung granite is suitable for ceramic industry raw material, 0.18% iron content is considered as a disturb, and Lampung granite has very little REE contained. |
