Summary:The population that continues to increase makes Semarang City become metropolitan city. The increasing population from year to year makes the water demand in Semarang City also increase. In addition, there are meteorological drought events that impact on the clean water availability for Semarang Citizen. Therefore, many of Semarang Citizen looking for alternatif water resources like ground water resource. Because of that the ground water resources were exploited massively and give the bad impact for the environment. <br /> <br /> <br /> One of the solution from the drought problems is utilizing meteorological parameters to assess the potention of water availability using water balance method. Calculation of this method takes into account of the factors like rainfall and evapotranspiration in the catchment area. The catchment area to calculate the water availability in Semarang City takes place in Garang Watershed. Based on the results of potential water availability calculation and water demand, it is known that water availability in Garang Watershed still able to meet the water needs of Semarang City every year. <br /> <br /> <br /> Further more, drought that happens in Semarang City is caused by meteorological phenomenon called ENSO. It can be determined by the calculation of RDI and SDI indices which is analyzed with the SOI indices along with precipitation wavelet spectrum in the study area. From the indices of RDI and SDI, there can be obtained a good correlation result that is 0.685. This correlation result shows that hidrological drought that happens in Garang Watershed is caused by meteorological drought.
