Summary: | Reservoir has a significant role as a place of hydrocarbon accumulation in petroleum system. Therefore during exploration, well understanding aboutreservoir characterization becomes important to recognize hydrocarbon migration path. There are several types of reservoirs which commonly found and one of them renowned as carbonate reservoir. This type of reservoir is not easily understood due to heterogeneity of its pore type.

There are some rock physics approaches which used to recognize carbonate reservoir. Kuster-Toksoz, Self Consistent Approximation (SCA), and Differential Effective Moduli (DEM) are commonly used to do this ritual. On the other hand, there are more empirical approaches which used to do this thing but not usually being used because of its lack of explanation about its rule of thumb and barrier about their approaches. Saleh and Castagna (2004) made a simple modification of Wyllie’s time average equation and it can be used to carbonate reservoir modelling but only for identifying reservoir which has spherical porosity. Sun (2015) introduced relative pore shape factor, which based on Saleh and Castagna equation, and resistivity index. These two parameters can be used to identify pore type which may developed in carbonate reservoir.
This research shows that rock physics approach give an enormous contribution to identify pore type which developed. Related to Saleh and Castagna, and Sun
experiment, they can give simpler approach about pore type analysis easier compared to Kuster-Toksoz in rock physics modelling. This result may be used as the first step to do seismic inversion based on elastic property which sensitive enough for this condition and also exploration plan in the research area. |
