Description
Summary:Many methods have been developed to increase oil recovery factor. One of the popular method is surfactant flooding. However, surfactant flooding is the riskiest method among the other method of enhanced oil recovery. One of the reason is the priceand operating cost for surfactant is more expensive than any other enhance oil recovery methods. Because of that, beside considering the technical aspect of the surfactant flooding, the economical aspect of the surfactant flooding must be considered too. The determination of the economic level can be measured through the obtained net present value. So, an in-depth investigation of the economic evaluation for surfactant flooding is needed.

In this study, the economical aspect of surfactant flooding is evaluated. A reservoir model with one production well and one injection well is used to calculate the oil produced and water produced from the existing well. The objective of this study are to calculate the increment of the recovery factor of the water flooding because of surfactant flooding and to compare the net present value result from surfactant flooding and water flooding to determine the surfactant flooding project is economically good or not. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine the factor that has biggest influence on the changes of the net present value from surfactant flooding. In addition, the right oil price to do the surfactant flooding is also calculated. The mass of the surfactant injected will also be calculated until the surfactant flooding project is economically good in the current situation.

The result from this study shows that surfactant flooding can increase the recovery factor of the water flooding about 12.6%. From the existing economic parameter, surfactant flooding is economically worse than water flooding. The net present value from surfactant flooding is USD 11,350,432 with 10% discount rates and the net present value from water flooding is USD 12,885,364 with 10% discount rates. Based on the sensitivity result, the changes of the oil price give bigger impact than other factors on the the changes of the net present value from surfactant flooding. In addition, if the oil price is at USD 62 per barrel or if 7.03 kg of the injected surfactant can increase oil production by 1 barrel in water flooding, then the net present value with 10% discount rates from surfactant flooding will be greater than the the net present value with 10% discount rates from water flooding.
