Description
Summary:The research area is located at coordinates 6o 42’ 00” S - 6 o 42’ 15” S dan 107 o 25’ 55” E - 107 o 26’ 10” E and administratively located in Darangdan District, Purwakarta Regency and Cikalong Wetan District, Bandung Barat Regency, in West Java. The area is about 0,25 km2 wide. The purposes of this research are to identify the engineering geologic condition by doing engineering geological mapping with 1 : 2500 scale and to analize the durability of Jatiluhur Formation claystone with slake durability test. The methods used in this research are literature study, field mapping, testing rock and soil samples in the laboratory. The research area contains hills and a valley with slope ranging from 0% to more than 140%. Geomorphical processes occuring in the area are erosion (rill, gully and headward erosion), mass movement (rotational landslide and creep) and sedimentation. Water springs found in the area are contact spring and depression spring with the relation between groundwater and river is efluent. The engineering geological condition of the area can be divided into Claystone Unit, Volcanic Breccia unit, Sand with Gravel Unit, Colluvial Unit, Alluvial Unit, Embankment Soil Unit. Geological structures found in the Claystone unit are NE-SW and NW-SE trending shear fractures and E-W trending bedding plane. Geological hazards potentially occur in the area are mass movement in steep slope area and flood around the Cisomang River. From the slake durability test done in the laboratory, Jatiluhur Formation claystone has low-medium durability (Id2 = 48,1-74,8 %). The factor affecting the durability of the claystone is the mineral content such as quartz, kaolinite, montmorilonite and pyrite.
