There is no castor oil processing industry until today in Indonesia, the sale value of these raw castor oils is very low. So, since 2014, the harvesting of castor seeds decreased significantly. Hence, in order to Indonesia can build the industries of castor oil’s processing into its derivatives and the farmers can believe to cultivate the castor plants extensively, a further research of the processing of castor oils into its derivatives is needed. <br /> <br /> The specific goals of this research are to identify the yield and purity of dodecanedioic acid that is successfully produced from castor oil, to identify the effect of reaction time of catalytic isomerization and of catalytic oxidation to the yield of methyl dodecanedioic, to identify the quality of intermediate product and desired product (dodecanedioic acid) that are produced by various analysys. This research will be accomplished with the variation of catalytic isomerization operation time in 90-320 min interval and with the variation of catalytic oxidation operation time in 1-2 hours. <br /> <br /> Castor oil which is used as feed has the purity of methyl ester ricinoleic acid of 89,03% based on GCMS (Gas Chromtograhy Mass Spectrometry) analysis. The production of DDDA by catalytic isomerization produced yield of 10,91% and the purity of the DDDA in the product is 21,23%. Besides, as the oxidation time increases, the yield and purity of DDDA decreases. And also by adding N2 in the oxidation process, the yield and purity of DDDA was also increased text
