| Summary: | Wakidi is known as one of artists who often presented the theme of nature scenery in his work. He and his colleagues were more known as Mooi Indie painters who tended to express the object of his work on romantical things of nature. In fact, Wakidi also expressed more about the theme of social reality. And it underlies this research. This is a qualitative research with the method of descriptive analysis. Specifically, hermeneutic approach is used to analyze Wakidi\'s work with the theme of social reality. This analysis is done in correlation with the background of artists, the concept of art, and the social reality surronding him. The finding on Wakidi\'s work on the theme of social reality shows that the social reality is presented through the object of living environment, daily activity of the people, and ritual ceremonies existing in Minangkabau society. Furthermore, it was also as his concern on the social reality of Minangkabau people, some of whom have already been away from their custom. The presence of the social reality theme was also as his objection on the assumption that the techniques and painting style of Mooi Indie is restricted to the beauty of the scenery without having the value in the painting |
