Description
Summary:Rapid land cover change happen in Jakarta, where residential and industrial area increased while green open space decreased. This rapid change can cause

temperature difference between urban and rural area. Temperature difference where temperature in urban area is higher than area around it known as urban heat island phenomenon. This study use Landsat 5 TM data to examine the impact of land cover change to spatial patern of urban heat island phenomenon in Jakarta. To find comfortability level in Jakarta, this study use Thermohygrometric Index (THI).

The result shows that the spatial patern of urban heat island follows the change in land cover. Land cover change from vegetation to residential area increase

urban heat island intensity from weak and middle urban heat island to strong urban heat island. Strong Urban heat island is detected at Center Jakarta, North Jakarta, Depok, and Bekasi. Land cover characteristic in strong urban heat island area are dominated by residential area and land cover characteristic in weak urban heat island area are dominated by vegetation. Comfortability level in Jakarta decreasing from 2005 to 2009. Area with high development have lower comfortability level than area with low development.
