Description
Summary:Gianyar Regency has a population of 490,500 people with an annual growth rate of 1.79%. The total generation of solid waste generated reaches 173.39 tons/day which consists of 58.73% organic waste and 41.27% inorganic waste. Currently, the waste management in Gianyar Regency has not been able to reach its maximum potency. As a result, there are still many indiscriminate solid waste disposal practices that effect the environmental and deteriorate the quality of public health. Therefore, more optimal solid waste management is needed by providing new infrastructure or by optimizing existing waste facilities. One of the solutions offered is the development of Material Recovery Facility with Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (MRF 3R). Lembeng Trasnfer Station is deemed as a proper solid waste facilities to be revitalized into MRF 3R. This transfer station is located in Desa Adat Lembeng, Ketewel Village, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. The transfer station service area covers Desa Adat Lembeng with a population of 2,190 people. In this design, the input waste is 2 ton/day with composition of kitchen waste (9.33%), leaves/ plants (61.55%), plastic (12.95%), paper (8.48%), metals (2.36%), rubber (0.25%), textiles (0.52%), gelas (2.42%), hazardous waste (0.71%) and others (1.14%). The process of handling waste starts from the collection of waste that has been disaggregated in the source. Furthermore, the waste will be brought to MRF 3R for further management. The management is consisted of 3 parts, namely; composting by using open windrow composting system, sorting of inorganic waste which still have sale value and sorting of hazardous waste. The untreated waste that cannot be managed will be to the landfill. The solid waste management facility in MRF 3R is in the form of reception and sorting area, inorganic waste storage area, shredding area, composting area, warehouse for hazardous waste storage, residue container, leachate container, office and other supporting facilities. With this MRF 3R, the amount of waste disposed to the landfill is reduced 69.64% by weight. This reduction will have an economic and environmental impact.
