DESIGN OF BIOPILE UNIT FOR PETROLEUM SLUDGE TREATMENT IN PT. X BASED ON LABORATORY SCALE DEGRADATION TEST
PT. X is an oil and gas company with one of its activities in the collection and delivery of petroleum. One of the wastes generated is in the form of oil sludge mainly from the tank cleaning. Oil sludge is considered as hazardous waste and should be managed to prevent environmental pollution. Biopil...

Oil sludge is considered as hazardous waste and should be managed to prevent environmental pollution. Biopile is a bioremediation technology that can be applied due to its ability to eliminate the hydrocarbon content in oil sludge permanently through biodegradation mechanism by petrophilic bacteria. Oil sludge sample that has been mixed with soil, husk, and petrophilic bacteria were given six treatment variations to determine the most effective mixture of treatments through laboratory scale degradation tests using a reactor This test is done by using reactors designed to mimic the biopilein a batch system. Based on the result of TPH degradation, the duration of treatment, with cost and operation analysis, the addition of biosurfactant with dosage of 3 CMC. The processing volume performed is 1,872 m3 in biopile with dimensions of 30 m  44.4 m  1.5 m for six months. The initial TPH concentration is 6% with final processing target of 1%. The oxygen requirement is distributed into the soil pile by using perforated pipes connected to eight negative pressure blowers. Moisture adjustment is done at the beginning of the soil treatment until it reaches 30% W/W water content. Periodic monitoring of six parameters is performed to ensure the degradation during processing. Mixed soil that has been processed and meet the quality standard can be used as mixing soil for further processing and used as landfill soil.

text |
