ANALYSIS OF OVERPRESSURE GENERATING MECHANISMS AND DISTRIBUTION IN BEKAPAI FIELDS KUTAI BASIN, EAST KALIMANTAN
The Bekapai Field is a part of the Kutai Basin which has economically proven petroleum system. This field is chosen as the research area because it has indications of the presence of overpressure and its geological complexity. The objective of this research is to know the overpressure characteristic...

The data used in this research are wireline log (gamma ray, sonic, resistivity and density), formation pressure, final well report (mudweight and drilling events), cuttings and seismic velocity. This research reveals that the generating mechanisms of overpressure in the study area are loading and non-loading mechanisms. The loading mechanism is caused by relatively rapid sedimentation in the study area, while the non-loading mechanisms is caused by kaolinite to illite transformation. The cross section of top of overpressure resulted from the analysis of seismic and well data shows that the top of overpressure follows structural horizon of MF 8.5 marker. This marker characterizes geological process during maximum flooding, so that this marker is indicated by the presence of thick and widely distributed shale in the study area. This circumstance is preferable for overpressure to be generated in MF 8.5 marker. <br />
