ACID MINE DRAINAGE MANAGEMENT IN PT. KPC BASED ON CHARACTERISTICS OF WASTE WATER, GEOCHEMISTRY AND CATCHMENT AREA.

PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (PT. KPC) is a coal mining company with total area reaching 90,938 ha. From analysis of acid mine drainage (AMD) generated in Sangatta pit area, it is indicated that AMD has high level of acidity and dissolved metals concentrations. This research assesses AMD potential risk and...

APRILIA SUJATMIKO (NIM : 25314741), KARINA Indonesia Theses INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/22755 PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (PT. KPC) is a coal mining company with total area reaching 90,938 ha. From analysis of acid mine drainage (AMD) generated in Sangatta pit area, it is indicated that AMD has high level of acidity and dissolved metals concentrations. This research assesses AMD potential risk and determines AMD management based on wastewater quality, geochemical, and hydrology

data. Delineation of elevation data produces 17 catchment areas in site Sangatta. Based on total sulphur value it is found that 33% of Sangata site has moderate to severe AAT risk. From NAG test, Sangatta has 18% of PAF and 82% of NAF. About 5 catchments ((10, 11, 12, 16 and 17) have NAF: PAF ratio by 7: 3. Alternative method that needs less NAF material such as mixing layer and

blending should be considered in that area. Integration of geochemistry data and water quality in 17 catchment areas suggests that 5 catchments (6, 10, 11, 16 and

17) are potential to generate and polluted by AMD. Active treatment needs to be carried out in these 5 catchments while passive treatment can only be applied in 2 settling pond at catchment 6. Passive treatment generates lower costs but it is ineffective to treat water from active mining which is usually has high flow (> 50 L / s) and high acidity (> 500mg / l CaCO3). Passive treatment is more feasible solution for abandoned mine. text
