Description
Summary:Lipase as a hydrolase enzyme has been used as catalyst in transesterification reactions to obtain the biodiesel. In these reactions, lipase has a role as catalyst, mainly in transesterification reaction of long-chain ester glycerides. Candida antarctica Lipase B (Cal-B) as one of hydrolase enzymes has been used in transesterification reaction as catalyst. The limitations of enzyme usage are its difficulty to purify their products, its instability which decreases its activity, and its low reproducibility. These limitations can be overcome by immobilization technique using a certain matrix such as polymer. The oligomers of polyethersulfone (PES) can be formed as oligomer or macromolecule comprising PES repeating unit which has the advantage as a membrane, such as thermal resistance, resistance with chemicals, and good mechanical strength. By that properties, the oligomers of PES can be developed as an enzyme immobilization matrix. The oligomers of PES is expected to overcome the weakness of PES polymer membrane........
